What is WinterFisch?

Each year, the Mason community raises funds to stock the Llano River with Rainbow Trout for kids & adults alike to catch all winter long. Unlike some of our other outings, this isn’t fly fishing exclusive, it’s a family event where folks are encouraged to keep their catch. A regular Texas Freshwater Fishing License is all you need.

WinterFisch Event Day Activities - December 6th

Live music
Freshly cooked trout and food vendors
Family fishing, with booths from TPWD, Reel Recovery, and others
Tagged trout prizes
Big Joe Martinez “Small Fry” Contest (where kids can enter their smallest trout for a cash prize!)

Why it matters

A note to Fellow THCFF Club members:This event is special to me personally — my daughters look forward to catching their “rainbow fish” each winter. And, it’s a joy to see so many kids outside enjoying the river at a time of year that’s not always available.

How you can be involved

Come fish! Bring your family, bring a chair, and enjoy a day on the Llano.
Volunteer (if you’d like): A few of us will be helping at the “Cantina,” where we fillet and cook trout for attendees. We could use extra hands with cooking, fish cleaning, measuring entries for the kids’ contest, and registering tagged trout.
Volunteer schedule
- Set-up 7–9:30am
- Event 10am–4pm
- Take down 4–5pm

This will be a great way to close out the year together as a club. Hope to see you in Mason!
